As I begin reading Sherry Turkle's "Alone Together" it makes me think a lot about some of the first technologies i had as a child. She talked about Tamagotchi Pets. I remember as a child my friends and I all had Tomagotchi Pets and you could connect them and they could visit each other and be friends. Technology seems so more advanced now than it was then when i think about things like that. She also talks about furbies. This brings back all my first encounters with "robot" toys when i was a child.

  1. When Turkle wrote about the Tomagotchi Pets I felt like I was the one 90's kid who didn't play with one. She wrote about how children loved to play with them because it was like it was real because you could never turn it off. I HATED the fact that you couldn't turn it off. Maybe for me it just wasn't "alive enough" to justify spending all day taking care of it when it was just a little screen in an egg-thing. She spent so much time writing about them but as a child I guess I missed out on that trend.

  2. I never had a tomagotchi pet either. I also didnt really like the fact that it wasnt as life like as I would of wanted. Your right maybe we were missing out, but I think avoiding all of those toys kinda made us more involved with real life than others of our generstion.
